Why Montreal Is the Ideal Venue to World-Class racing

Montreal also has a rich and festive tradition of international speed skating where the World Championships have been hosted in 1987, 2002, 2014, 2018 and 2022. The Maurice-Richard arena has been heralded as the place of electric atmosphere, enthusiastic fans, and fast ice serving up record breaking performances. The competition in Montreal is likely to be unrealistically high, as the athletes continue to be fuelled with adrenaline following the Olympic Games. This is the one in which Olympic champions show that their superiority is not a one-off act, and in which the newcomers declare themselves to the world.

Canadian Athletes to Watch

Team Canada comes to Montreal with real medal aspirations in a variety of different events. The major favourites to watch in this case are:

  • William Dandjinou: The current Crystal Globe overall winner of the men competition and World Champion at 1500m. At home in Montreal, the favourite of the crowd will be Dandjinou and the man to beat in every race he participates in.
  • Steven Dubois: World champion in the 500m twice and a heavyweight in relay events. Dubois possesses an explosive pace and tactical genius that would make him a podium threat on a regular basis.
  • Courtney Sarault: the best female competitor of Canada, Sarault is an all round and technically talented skater who has always competed with the best of the world. The city of Montreal would be an ideal place to end an outstanding season with a medal.
  • Canadian Men Relay Team: The Canadian men relay team is one of the most winning relay teams in the history of the sport and is always a favourite to win gold in their competitions and an event worth watching as a fan.

Wagering on the Ice: The Best Place to Take the Odds

The winter sports betting opportunities in the World Championships are the most interesting ones. There are several events taking place within three days, such as the 500m, 1000m, 1500m, and relay final, and so there are enough opportunities to get value. In the men events, William Dandjinou is the obvious choice however, ISU short track racing is decidedly faulty: a collision, a penalty and lap-overtakes can change any competition within a second.

The ISU has very stringent regulations in order to maintain a fair competition, but the disorder is incommensurable to any rulebook; and which is what makes this sport so to watch, and to wager. Watch the stars of Back Canada on home ice and share all the shocking moments.
