The tournament host the champions and runners-up of three regional conferences, Canada West, the Ontario University Athletics (OUA), and Atlantic University Sport (AUS) as well as the host school. The Saskatchewan Huskies come in as the obviously general favourites. Their second consecutive win in the Canada West championship followed by a stunning playoff series that saw them slaughter every opponent they faced means that they come to Halifax as a team to beat. In recent years, Canada West hockey has had several University Cup champions and Saskatchewan has an advantage of depth, experience and individual elite talent that puts them ahead in the tournament.
